Pine Flatwood

Importance: Pine Flatwoods are forested wetlands that occur in calcium-rich flat terrain. Temporary pools provide important breeding habitat for a diverse array of frogs and salamanders.

Host(s): Gopher frogs are sensitive to environmental changes, making them valuable bioindicators of habitat health. As tadpoles, they consume algae, and as adults, they eat insects, helping to regulate insect populations                                                                 

Lachnocaulon anceps is known for its pollination by various insects, and its flower heads are also a good food source for various birds and other animals.
