Heroes and Hosts is a collaborative art installation currently displayed in the street-facing windows of the Jepson Center on Barnard Street in Savannah, Georgia.The project spotlights the Coastal Plains vulnerable native plants and species. This website serves as a living archive of the project—documenting the research, creative process, and artworks of artists Lisa D. Watson and Dana W. Richardson.
Heroes and Hosts is part of Telfair Museums’ #art912 initiative, which is dedicated to raising the visibility and promoting the vitality of artists living and working in Savannah.

** We acknowledge the land where we live, learn, and create.
This land is home to the Guale, Muscogee (Creek), and other Indigenous peoples who stewarded the tidal ecosystems with relational knowledge. We also acknowledge the descendants of enslaved West and Central Africans, whose forced labor transformed this landscape, building its fields, navigating its creeks, and embedding their spirit and culture into the soil, and the Gullah-Geechee people, whose communities still dwell along the coast. We honor the people, plants, and animals who live here. May our work here, whether artistic, scientific, or educational, have humility, gratitude, and awareness of what has been given, and what has been taken.
